About Auto!Automatic!!
Auto!Automatic!! parted ways with bassist Nate Murray in early 2010 after close to a year of inactivity. Creative differences and internal struggles were preventing the band as a whole from expanding its sound and progressing beyond the 'Another Round' era of songwriting. A break was needed...and after some long thought and reevaluation, the overall direction and goals for the future of the band were achieved. This new direction along with the addition of bassist, Adam Khan, gives the group a much more progressive sound. With less emphasis on constant in-your-face technicality and more focus on space, dynamics, and moods. That's not to say they've lost their 'mathy' edge...there's still plenty of finger tapping goodness, even more complex drumming, and the heavy addition of layered and manipulated guitar loops. More importantly...the name. Upon the decision to welcoming a new bassist, it seemed silly to trash the name completely. It's still the same band with the same overall goal of producing technical & intriguing instrumental rock. Conversely, A LOT has changed and they felt it necessary to give some sort of differentiation between the 'Nate Murray era' and the 'Era of Khan'. What better way to do this than with punctuation that really have no effect on the pronunciation of the name. So there in enters the question marks. An interesting twist that actually draws a bit of mystery into the name. I guess what it really boils down to is this: "We are Auto Automatic, you may see us with exclamation marks or questions marks, either way it's the same band and you can refer to us whichever way you prefer! We even thought about '#Auto##Automatic' in hopes of becoming the next twitter trend...but eh." says guitarist, Brian Larsen. Now that everythings been cleared up, here is Auto!Automatic!!'s updated Bio: After a year hiatus, a new bass player, and a new album in the works, it is evident that Tampa, Florida's Auto!Automatic!! is completely re-shaped. Disregard your past notions of what this band might have been, they now boast a darker and heavier, yet somehow brighter and jazzier sound. In 2010, Auto!Automatic!! received a Best of the Bay award for "Best Progressive Fusion Band." From local newspaper: Creative Loafing. The new sound fuses various elements of Rock with Jazz, Groove, Reggae, and even Hip-Hop undertones. Guitarist Brian Larsen has mastered the use of various loop pedals in ways that would make Minus the Bear say, "Wait, huh?" all while the rhythm section locks you in place for a rollercoaster ride of motion. Intense rhythms, tons of melody, and all coming from just a 3-piece band.
