About Blakc
Blakc is a Alternative Rock/Post Grunge band from Mumbai, India immensely popular among the local fans for the lively stage presence and hard hitting songs. Originally called Black after Pearl jam's song, it consists of Shawn Periera on vocals, Reinhardt Dias on lead guitar and Anish Menon on rhythm guitars, Roop Thomas on bass guitar and Shishir Tao Thakur on drums. They released their first Album "Choking on a Dream" on 10th December 2009. Originally scheduled to release the album with 'Un-herd Records' the band split with the label amicably and released the album in a D.I.Y style. Shawn Periera was looking to form a band of his own, after his first band, Serpent's Kiss, broke up. Anish Menon was a 16-year-old guitarist who had big dreams of making it in the corporate world. The two got together and decided to name their band Blakc, after the Pearl Jam song. After several lineup changes, Reinhardt joined as the second guitarist, and Roop and Shishir a.k.a Tao took up the bass and drums respectively. With a steady lineup in place, the band started off small, playing college competitions in the city. They were selected for Independence Rock 2007, and then there was no looking back. In a span of three years, they've made it to the national finals of Independence Rock, Campus Rock idols and the final 16 of Channel V Launchpad 2009. So far, they have played about 50 shows across many cities in India. The band is known for their energetic live sets, and a stage act that is reminiscent of the glory days of grunge. The band is all set to release their eagerly anticipated debut album, 'Choking On A Dream'. The album name represents the endless struggle to put out their music just as they wanted it. The album combines a variety of influences, ranging from grunge, punk and metal to pop and funk in a single cohesive sound that is both unique and familiar. As Anish says, ""Blakc has always been about two things, the music and the people. We believe that our music is an extension of our personalities and the only way to connect to so many music lovers. Off stage we are weird; on stage we can tear a place apart purely because of the energy we have." The album launches on the 10th of December at Kir, Andheri. They released a live unplugged album 'Blakc Unplugged Live @ The Blue Frog' in Oct 2010 which is available as a free download at http://blakc.bandcamp.com/album/blakc-unplugged-live-the-blue-frog
