About Bubblemath
It is, perhaps, fitting that the five members of Bubblemath were born variously between 1971 and 1979, spanning the historic rise and fall of progressive rock's first wave. Or, perhaps, not fitting at all. It all depends on what you mean by "perhaps". Condensing out from the icy mists of Minneapolis, Minnesota, the first official incarnation of Bubblemath took shape in 1995. But the winds of circumstance were hard on poor, innocent Bubblemath, and the band found itself shaped and re-shaped, again and again, until the current and definitive lineup achieved full realization in October of 1998. Musically, Bubblemath are most strongly influenced by stuff they hate. Meaning that while they don't all agree on what they like, they do tend to agree on what they don't like. This shared passion for avoidance guides them away from particular aspects of composition that they've traditionally been disappointed in. Things like lyrical clichés, overused chord progressions, harmonic typicalities, etc. So they all tend to veto the same kinds of things, and that binds them together. Their songwriting sessions are filled with vetoes. Whatever's left over gets to be the music of Bubblemath. "Ultimately, our mission statement is: 'To be a band with a mission statement.' Philosophically, our mission statement is: 'Never give the listener a chance to get bored.' We try to accomplish this by pushing the boundaries of the unexpected in every aspect of what we do. Provocative compositions, visually stimulating stage presentations, politically explicit lyrics, and then we hose it all down with ice cold love. Refreshing!" Bubblemath are currently in the studio recording their second album. This long-fabled sophomore release should be available for mass purchase within the next four months. Give or take.
