About Compa
(Biography by Seb Wheeler at Mixmag and Tyler Kinman) Following his debut appearance on Get Darker TV in March 2011, Compa released his inaugural 12" single with one of Dubstep's foundation imprints Boka Records (Tracks 'Sentence' and 'Beginning'), and his infamous bootleg of Mavado's 'Dem A Talk' on his own vinyl-only WX/WL imprint, which sold out worldwide within one week of its release, and at the tender age of just 21, he's been newly signed to Mala's Deep Medi label, perhaps the most revered seal of approval in true-skool Dubstep circles. With a sound that is perpetually nostalgic, yet equally refreshing, and heavy enough to shock the toughest of sound systems, Compa's music displays a binary relationship between 'Foundation Sound' homage and Forward-Motion thought. Spacious textures, heavily built sub-frequencies and intricate execution of minimalism are but a few significant ways in which his music can be described. The Compa sound has received acclaim from across the board with key influences like BBC 6 Music's Gilles Peterson & Nerm showing praise, as well as J:Kenzo and B-Traits on BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra, not forgetting Jay 5ive and N-Type amongst others on the prestigious Rinse Fm. Tracks have even found their way into the record bags of scene pioneers Mala (Deep Medi, DMZ), Chase & Status (Ram, Mercury, Renegade Hardware) and US Dubstep Ambassador, Joe Nice (Dub War, Reconstrvct). Whilst operating his own white label series, WX/WL, you can still catch Compa live on Sub FM every other Monday 12pm-2pm GMT. In addition to performances in The Netherlands, Croatia, Belgium, Russia, Portugal, Germany, Czech Republic and Turkey, Compa has also toured Sweden and the United States since the start of 2012.
