About Currents
Currents is a metal band from Fairfield County, CT. You've heard it before; change is a constant. In a world where genres fade from popularity and bands vanish in the blink of an eye, there is very little sense in permanence. However, while it's true that change is a constant force, it is also true that the more things change, the more they stay the same--and amidst the constant ebb and flow of bands and trends in the world of heavy music, there is Connecticut's Currents for the listener to rely on. With melodies and awe-inspiring emotion as beautiful as the sun rising over the Baltic Sea--but with technicality and aggression that crushes the listener with the ferocity of a tidal wave--Currents are a band as complex and mesmerizing as the waters that house their namesake. Erupting into the American music circuit in 2012 with their debut single, "Anneliese," Currents quickly garnered a voracious following based on their penchant for blending brutality and quick, hard-hitting riffs. Their fanbase skyrocketed, expanding exponentially with the release of their debut EP: Victimized. Just fast enough to avoid the "down-tempo" stigma, but heavy and brooding enough to steer clear of "djent," Currents can be found lurking in the shadows at the intersection of After The Burial's penchant for the progressive, Northlane's jaw dropping beauty and Barrier's bitter brutality--all while maintaining a distinct style and fervor of their own. While 2013 saw Currents crusading boldly into the scene, 2014 saw them patiently refining their tumultuous breed of intense, metallic hardcore--into what is bound to be one of 2015's strongest albums. Life//Lost is the same creative--albeit crushing--Currents that brought speed and aggression on Victimized, it sees the band calming their rough waters with introspective and immersive emotional touches that allow the band to balance their uniquely heavy atmosphere with more accessible ethereal elements. Perhaps the most impressive part of the band's renovation is that it in no way impacted their desire to bring their music to the public--as Currents' work ethic in the studio is mirrored perfectly by their dazzling live performance and incessant event schedule. Between impeccable musicianship and dedication to heavy music fans around the world, there is no ocean too rough or storm too fierce to keep Currents from doing what they love.
