About FM Knives
An upbeat garage rock four-piece from Sacramento, CA. They formed in 2001 and were originally known as The Clap. The line-up was: Jason Patrone (vocals), Chris Woodhouse (guitar), Ed Carroll (drums), and Zack Olson (bass). A brief history: there was an initial CDR-EP that was recorded on Chris' 8-Track as The Clap, which later was shifted to FM Knives. This had early recordings of a few songs off of Useless & Modern, plus English Beat's "Two Swords" and The Kinks' "Everybody's Gonna Be Happy." Not too long after that all the material for Useless & Modern was recorded. The only thing from that recording that didn't make it onto the album was a re-recording of the English Beat cover. Useless & Modern was originally released as CD only by Moo-La-La Records, but more CDs wasn't what the band wanted so shortly after the Moo-La-La release the album was shifted over to Broken Rekids for a combined LP and CD release. Following that came the release of the Estrogen EP released by Smartguy Records, and a coast-to-coast tour playing at the Chicago Blackout and doing several dates with the A Frames. The band came back from the tour on the verge of ending, but still managed to record 5 new songs (2 went to a 7" for Dirtnap Records, 1 went to some Japanese comp, and the rest went nowhere). 1 more song was written after that but didn't get recorded until Lyme Regis did it ("Suffer, Suffer"). Chris had previously been in several bands, most notably Karate Party (vocals/guitar), Los Huevos (drums), and Pretty girls (drums). After the FM Knives he was in Mayyors (guitar) and was one of the many members to float through the Intelligence lineup (guitar). Jason Patrone had also been in Los Huevos (bass) and Pretty girls (bass). When the FM Knives stopped playing, he played bass and occasionally sang in Lyme Regis, before moving to Oakland and playing in photobooth (guitar/vocals). He's now in Angora Debs (vocals/guitar). Ed Carroll was in Nar (drums), and like Jason and Chris, was also in Los Huevos (drums) and Pretty girls (drums). Following the FM Knives, he was in Lyme Regis with Jason, then Ski Instructors, and now plays drums in English Singles. After the FM Knives, Zack Olson was in The Pets (bass/doubled-vocals) and now plays guitar in Angora Debs.
