About Grouch
There are at least five artists known as Grouch: 1) Bay Area Hip Hop legend The Grouch (often known as; and tagged as, Grouch. 2) NZ Electronic Producer, Grouch., Zenon Records Cosmic Conspiracy Records A-List Records). 3) DJ Grouch, from Toronto's world champion Turnstyles crew. 4) Late 90's Britrock band 5) Late 00's punk band from Asheville, North Carolina. Biographies listed below: 1) The Grouch always wanted to make beats since he first heard about this music called hip-hop. His dad played keys and Grouch felt music was inside him also, but he hadn't planned on being an MC. Being from Oakland, Grouch grew up on the local heroes like Digital Underground, Too Short, Toni, Tony, Tone, and many others. Around 91'/92' Del and the Hiero crew were first starting to make noise in the bay and it was then that Grouch felt he could really make something out of this music thing. He had a friend who rapped and he convinced Grouch to start writing/rapping in 94'. He met the Mystik Journeymen soon after and they schooled Grouch on the independent hustle. From this moment, Grouch knew it was on. Grouch's first show as an MC was in 1995, it was at one the Journeymen's "Broke Ass" something shows in East Oakland. Grouch performed under his real name and the crowd showed him much love, which he says is the main reason he stuck with making music. Grouch's music influences include all the hip-hop greats from LL Cool J to the Beastie Boys along with the Bay Area classics and Jazz, Rock, and Soul music. Grouch has always taken the independent route and has done everything himself along the way, a fact he takes great pride in. In 1996, The Grouch joined up with what would become Living Legends. In 2000, he joined fellow legend Eligh and put out "G&E Music Volume 1&2" and later "No More Greener Grasses" in 2003. Also in 2003, he hooked up with Daddy Kev and created "Sound Advice", a lengthy EP with 11 songs. On October 10, 2006, his most recent project with Zion I will hit the streets. The Grouch is working all the time and currently working with Eligh on the third full-length collaboration. 2) Grouch is a project that began in 2005, following four years of musical experimentation by New Zealand producer Oscar Allison. Dedicated to developing and evolving as a percussionist, these natural rhythms lay a strong foundation for Grouch's original sound. In 2004, after being signed to Cosmic Conspiracy Records, Oscar found inspiration in this form of psychedelic music. As he became more involved in the New Zealand trance scene, his music evolved to an original, organic blend of psy dub, breaks and progressive trance. Always pushing towards his goal to create a perfect blend of analogue and digital music, Oscar turns to his friends and other session musicians to record live instruments and vocals over his digital productions. His debut album, The Moof Is Rooving, released in 2007 by newly created A-list Records, is an introduction to these goals and ideas. Grouch has also completed several psychedelic dance tracks which have been greatly received and acclaimed on the New Zealand dance floors. Grouch is a music project that evolves and changes over time, always original and dedicated to exploring different genres. He is already considered one of the the leading and most promising producers in the New Zealand psy scene. This has been cemented recently as Grouch is set to release 3 times in 2008. With Zenon Records, Cosmic Conspiracy Records, and again, with A-List Records. 3) DJ Grouch, from Toronto's world champion Turnstyles crew. 4) Late 90's Britrock band 5) Grouch was a punk band from Asheville, North Carolina. They self released a demo in 2009 called "Fuck the World As Soon As Possible". Members have been/are in other bands including Neon Piss and Displeasure (Northern California), and Shorebirds (Olympia, WA).
