About Hint
Hint is the name of three distinct projects: 1) Hint (UK): Ninja Tune sound 2) Hint (France): Noise band 3) HINT (Taiwan): Electronic funk, classical, hip-hop, lounge 1) Hint (UK) Hint (Jonathan James, Sussex, UK) is an Excellent Jazzy DJ with down tempo beats and grooves contrasted against future-dance floor bombs. His first singles and the debut album, Portakabin Fever, was released on by Bristol-based independent record label Hombré Recordings, in association with Ninja Tune. The music is at the more chilled-out, downtempo end of the Ninja Tune roster. Several tracks feature looped acoustic guitar and keyboard sounds and his style has been termed "ruralbeat". When Hint recently played live, he was joined on stage by Bonobo and Minotaur Shock, the trio performing under the banner "The Hint Touring Band". Both artists also contributed remixes to Hint's track "Count Your Blessings". Hint has been a good friend of Tru Thoughts for many years. He was first found on Tru Thoughts (whilst signed to the superb Ninja Tune) on the Shapes One Compilation with a track called Back to the Wig. Expect Hint's ever evolving style to keep you guessing and wanting more. His first solo release on Tru Thoughts, The Tremmuh EP is a vastly different, more dancefloor orientated style to his last album. November 2007 saw the release of Hint's second EP on Tru Thoughts, At The Dance. This foot stomping 12" shows a mix of dub-step, hip hop and big bass lines whilst retaining his classic down tempo style. In July 2008 Hint released his first full album on Tru Thoughts, Driven From Distraction. The album is a mix of instrumental and vocal tracks. Hint explores the eclectic styles of music that have excited and inspired him over the years - from hip hop to electronica, fiery soul to straight up dancefloor bombs - whilst pushing boundaries for a new, unique sound. Stunning guest vocals are provided by long-time collaborator Laura Vane; the prodigious teenaged MC Rizzle; and Tru Thoughts and Zebra Traffic label-mates Kinny and Rup. If you're looking for twisted music, you should check it. Hint was a French noise band, originating from Angers, France and formed in 1994 by Arnaud Fournier and Hervé Thomas. Sound engineer of the Studio Karma, Pascal Ianigro, was later on officiating within the formation like a third member. Since 1999 Hint is having a 'sleeping existance'. Inbetween 1994 and 1999, they produced the following records: 100% White Puzzle (1995) Product Topology (1996) Dys (1996) wu-wei (1998) Product Topology is a remix album of 100% White Puzzle , drawn to 500 specimens on vinyl only. Three of the remixes though appeared on the album Dys . Hint worked with Portobello Bones and Ouled El Rai, which led to the album 6 Songs in 1997. Hint appeared also three times on the album Portobello Amigos, on the songs Sixed ( reprise of Guzzard ), alleged (reprise of Unsane ) and hod ( reprise of Distorted Pony ). They also appeared on the split single Committed/No Soulwith with Unsane. Arnaud Fournier is now member of La Phaze. Hervé Thomas is joining a few other bands, like Fragile, Urawa and Dead Hollywood Stars. Thanks to: http://wapedia.mobi/fr/Hint 3) HINT (Taiwan) Also known as 暗示, HINT had its beginnings in 2003.
