About Jessie Frye
Jessie Frye is 22 years old and based in Denton, TX. She started taking classical piano lessons at age 12, and always felt that music was not something you do, but something you are. She formed her band in early 2009 after receiving an invite to play an official showcase at the SXSW music festival in Austin, TX. "When I got the invitation, it was based off the CD (The Delve) itself, because I didn't have a band and I didn't have any press. I was like, I better get a band together, you know?" Since then, Jessie and her band have showcased in 2010 as well as 2011. Her first EP titled The Delve (2008) was deemed as "smart pop" by the Dallas Observer; and gave the listener a glimpse into lyrical intimacy and haunting piano-pop driven tunes. In August of 2010 Jessie Frye opened for Pat Benatar at the House of Blues Dallas, while completing the final touches on her much anticipated new EP titled Fireworks Child (April 2011). The new material was produced by John Congleton (St. Vincent, Polyphonic Spree) and mixed by Joe McGrath (Ryan Adams, Morrissey, Green Day). The sound is more electric and edgier- but still contains a level of intimacy that had listener's of The Delve so intrigued. Critics responded positively to the change of pace on the new recording, praising the diversity and daring attitude of the content. "Prepared is a well-executed, edgy, alt-rock cut that is a departure from the infectious poppy opener and light-years beyond The Delve". Frye felt that although she stepped away from the more organic style of songwriting, becoming more electric was a natural progression for the band. "The biggest difference about Fireworks Child is personal transitions. My life was changing." Jessie Frye and her band have opened for notable artists such as Pat Benatar, Tracy Bonham, Joan As Police Woman, Eric Hutchinson and Anais Mitchell. Jessie is nominated for Best Solo Act in the 2011 Dallas Observer Music Awards and was nominated for Best Female Vocalist in the 2010 Dallas Observer Awards and Best Female Vocalist in the 2009 Ft. Worth Weekly Awards
