Meet people through music
Magic Wands are a girl/guy duo formed by Chris and Dexy Valentine. They met in Hollywood in 2007 outside a gig while Chris was visiting Los Angeles from Nashville,Tennessee. A year later they re-connected when Chris found a song online by Dexy called "Teenage Love" they spent the entire summer 2000 miles apart staying up late on the phone and writing music together. The name of the band stems from the gift of a magic wand from Chris to Dexy while the two were living on opposite sides of the country. In late 2008 the band signed to indie label Bright Antenna and released their first EP, Magic Love & Dreams recorded in New York City with producer John Hil (Santigold/Lykke Li) in 2009. In a review in Prefix Magazine the album was scored 7/10 and reviewer Matthew Richardson wrote that, "the whole EP is covered with the cosmic haze of dream-pop, while the Valentines maintain the attitude of punk kids." Their dreamy pop gems won them touring spots alongside The Kills, The Horrors, The Raconteurs, The Black Keys, as well as appearances at SXSW and Lollapalooza. On February 17th 2010, the MP3 blog, RCRD LBL, released a download of the track, Warrior remixed by The xx. The Wands' debut LP Aloha Moon was released on April, 24th 2012. The announcement was made in an article on the website of the magazine SPIN along with a stream of the previously unreleased track Space. The reviewer, David Marchese, wrote that the track was, "... a sexy and propulsive stunner...a really cool song, suggestive of the darker side of '80s pop and brighter side of falling in love." Session drummer, Cary LaScala, recorded drums on the album.
