About Meta
There are at least two artists with the name Meta. 1. Meta - The electronic artist and producer duo that met online through a popular media website in mid 2011 didn't take long in realizing their collaborative potential as both Andrew (Seattle, WA) and August (Reykjavik, Iceland) begun to seize the opportunity at hand. Within the first year of meeting they had spent three months of in house writing together and finished, signed with Lifted Music and released their first EP release entitled 'The Alpha'. It was a three part EP containing one ambient original (Alpha) and two dubstep originals (Flare & Phoenix Down). It met welcome beyond expectation with promotion feedback from Sub Focus, Dirtyphonics and many others. In addition a UKF feature of their most popular of the three songs "Phoenix Down" on the UKF dubstep channel. Shortly after they appeared on Dubstep.net for a feature and eventually a licensing contract from Ministry of Sound for Phoenix Down to appear on their upcoming album release 'The Sounds of Dubstep Volume 5'. 2. The Méta Együttes is one of Hungary's foremost folk music ensembles. In the first two years of its history, Méta played in Pécs, then since 1985, Budapest has been the headquarters of the group. The ensemble was founded by Beáta Salamon whose singing voice and virtuosity on the violin are the specialties of Méta ensemble. Followed in '87 Zsolt Nagy, virtuoso on the viola and the talented Albert Mohácsy, double-bass, in '89. From '85 till '97 István Berán (wind instruments) worked for the band. As a result of playing together regularly and the varied tasks and tours, beside having a well-established sound, they have become a cheerful friendly group. The very base of their work is playing in dance houses that gives an opportunity to know each other's musical style and enables us to express ourselves with music. They can measure our influence in our own club, our Sunday evening dance house, which has been operating since 1985. The Méta-táncház has become a real club as in the intervals between dance teaching and free dancing we have guests, almost every weekend they invite tradition preserving performers, folk or blues musicians, choreographers , film makers, etc. They learn their musical repertoire from archive material and from our own collections. From their masters they learn not only the unique way of performing but can also see the inner laws of music and dance. They try to pass on our personal experiences to their students in the Nádasdy Kálmán Art School , at their courses in folk music and in their summer camps. In '96, they finished our four years' study at the Bessenyei György College in the faculty of music-folk music. Berci As for playing in theatres, they have performed in the Gyulai Várszínház, Játékszín in Budapest, National and Thália theaters, Petõfi theater in Veszprém, in the productions of the Summer Festival in Szeged and the Honvéd Dance Theater. They often play together with Kálmán Balogh, the world famous cimbalom player. Our adventure into world music is the Heavy Méta formation, in which such experts of the Hungarian blues-life perform as Tamás Takáts, Zoltán Sipeki, György Ferenczi and Gábor Molnár. As a representative of the Hungarian folklore movement, our band regularly gives concerts at home and abroad and also performs at international festivals and musical competitions.
