About Mofo
There are at least three bands called Mofo: 1) Mofo was an alternative / indie rock band from Rīga, Latvia, formed in 2003. The band's self-titled debut album Mofo, released in 2006, brought them recognition in national level. Album included successful radio singles "Daudz Par Daudz", "Es Tevi Nopirkšu", "Nekas Nav Beidzies" and cover of "Mans Lielais Rakstāmgalds", which was originally written by other Latvian indie rock band, Baložu Pilni Pagalmi. Second record Raķete, released in spring 2008, was a step forward in their musical development. Founding guitarist Martins Elerts was replaced with Edgars Rubenis from Mona de Bo. His post rock guitar riffs gave the band slightly different sound from the britpop influenced first album. Songs "Lielveikals", "Mīnu Lauks" and title track "Raķete" have made Mofo one of the most successful Latvian acts in recent years. In summer 2009 they announced an indefinite hiatus. The last lineup: Arnis Račinskis - vocal, guitar, keyboards Edgars Rubenis - guitar Toms Ostrovskis - bass guitar Pēteris Lunde - drums www.mofomusic.lv www.myspace.com/melcome 2) Although now defunct, MoFo was an alternative rock / ska-punk band based in Leeds, England in the early 00s. Their self-released LP 'The Happy Club' included a mix of live recordings and electric/acoustic productions (including favourites 'All I Think', 'D-Tune' and 'Smoke Out'), and computer based dance/electronica tunes arranged by drummer ____ (?). Live shows saw the band accompanied by a wide array of instrumentalists including turntables and human beatboxers. 3) Born from the ashes of Thormenthor, Mofo is a industrial metal band from Portugal with influences from bands such as Bizarra Locomotiva, Marilyn Manson and Nine Inch Nails. Their music is often quite danceable as the lyrics talk about sex and drugs. 4)Mofo is a Romanian DJ. Mofo has been building a good reputation in the past two years as a drumandbass dj by playing some epic sunrise sets at big events like Summer Break Festival and Solid Like Rock (Brasov). He's pushing a deep and dancefloor oriented mix between neurotech and sexy liquid that got him bookings at parties in Bucharest, Timisoara, Cluj Napoca and of course his hometown - Deva where he is a regular infamous entertainer. The Steps EP marks his recent taking on production. Although he still has a long way ahead to develop his sound there are definitely some good ideas and good vibes inside. A certain minimalistic direction in the veins of SpectraSoul, Lynx or Instra:Mental is obvious, you know what to expect - simple dubbed out breaks, nice atmos and some trippy voice samples. If there's a favourite to pick "This Is It" does it for us.
