About Monokino
Monokino (Amsterdam, the Netherlands) weaves ear-piercing synthesizers, angry guitar riffs and pounding drums with a highly-exceptional voice to produce futuristic sounding, awe-inspiring pop. In the course of a minute, you may hear Soft Cell, New Order, Kraftwerk, Associates, Cabaret Voltaire and Freur. The band has toured extensively across China, the Netherlands, Canada and the USA and worked with producer Tony Visconti (David Bowie) and Kristeen Young. Their brand new album 'Fake Virtue' has been critically acclaimed in multiple countries and is produced by Jacco Gardner. Music video 'New Kid' has been unanimously praised for its quality and originality, and considered Video of the Week at Stereogum. Monokino is signed to China's largest independent label 'Modern Sky' and frequently participates in China's growing music festivals, including performances at the Strawberry Music Festival 2013 in Beijing and Shanghai, the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, The Modern Sky Festival in Beijing (2010) and the 2008 China/Germany Pop Festival in Guangzhou. Highlights of Monokino's shows in North America were performances at SXSW (USA 2009), NXNE (Canada, 2011) and the Sled Island festival (Canada, 2011 and 2012), at which Monokino was considered highlight of the festival. Furthermore Monokino has been selected to play SXSW 2014.
