Meet people through music
Moodoïd is a nom de plume of Parisian multi-instrumentalist Pablo Padovani, whose day job it is to play guitar as part of the touring band for fellow psychedelic experimentalist Melody Prochet's Melody's Echo Chamber project. Not only has Padovani been moonlighting, however, he's also pinched Prochet's producer, Tame Impala's Kevin Parker, who has expertly mixed the four songs that make up Moodoïd's début self-titled EP, premiered here. And it must have been quite the job given that each song is bursting with sonic experimentation, flitting between dreamy and languorous on the first half of the EP's current single Je suis la Montagne and the fuzzy bluster of the excellent Do folie pure. The latter also ends with what sounds like a punch up in an orchestra - Padovani's animal-like noises yelping amongst a clatter of parping horns and crashing percussion. For the closing Je sais ce que tu es, Padovani recalls another psychedelic-soaked minstrel Connan Mockasin, the song's meandering melodies and sudden shifts in tempo creating a mood that's beautifully beguiling. The Moodoïd EP is released on 9 September via Les Disques Entreprise. Sites: YouTube, Discogs, BandCamp and Twitter
