About Moulettes
Moulettes are a Brighton-based art-folk band. They were formed earlier this century at school by Hannah Miller, Ruth and Robb Skipper, Ted Dwane and Oliver Austin. Rob Arcari and Georgina Leach were also long-term members. The current line-up features Miller, Austin, Ruth Skipper, Anisa Arslanagic and Jim Mortimore. They blend folk, Classical, rock, prog and pop to acclaimed effect - This delicious music is played with acoustic virtuosity... Complex and beautiful...Intriguing and unique" **** MOJO "Moulettes are among the frontrunners of the new British acoustic scene thanks to their sophisticated, unpredictable approach, matching precise female harmony vocals against complex, swirling backing featuring violin, cello and bassoon - and with banjo, lap steel, hammered dulcimer or washboard added in. They are intriguing because almost every song takes a different direction...exquisite harmonies...adventurous violin...excellent live shows...edgy as well as upbeat." **** Robin Denselow, The Guardian "This is what a modern folk album should sound like -- lively, yet swathed in the spirit of folklore. There is an umbilical connection with Mumford & Sons -- Ted Dwane, double bassist, ex-Moulette, current Mumford -- but you would do better to think of this group as peers of the Fleet Foxes." **** London Evening Standard "Divine harmonies...Orchestral folk at its very finest." ***** Time Out They have released two albums (Moulettes, 2010 and The Bear's Revenge, 2012), with a third, tentatively titled Constellations, due out in 2014. They have also released three EPs, Horses for Hearses 2010, Sing Unto Me and Uca's Dance 2012 all on Balling The Jack Records. They tour consistently racking up between 50 and 80 gigs a year, and have a formidable live reputation. They have played many of the most prestigious festivals in the UK, including Glastonbury, Bestival, Latitude, Cambridge Folk, End Of The Road and Larmer Tree. www.moulettes.co.uk
