About Sebkha-Chott
NEW ALBUM "CARPETS & TAPESTRIES" TEASER online: Teaser Nouvel album / New Album Teaser PREORDER THE 6TH ALBUM! Info / bio Created in 2000 in Le Mans, France, Sebkha-Chott is a changing-shape free-&-avantgarde-rock project associated with burlesque/absurd theater, with "total show" (called TOTALIZM in their words) as unique goal. Since 2010, Sebkha-Chott is often called Sebkha-Chott Kourt. Musique Keywords: Rock In Opposition, Rock Progressif, Metal, Experimental, Jazz, Zeuhl, Fusion, Balkans Sebkha-Chott Kourt's music is at crossroad of many musical styles, and have no limit. Most often, references to Zeuhl (Magma, Guapo), Frank Zappa, freak metal (Mr Bungle, Fantômas, Carnival In Coal) are made when speaking about Sebkha-Chott, as well as influence of balkanic and klezmer musics (especially considering the scales and rhythmic patterns used by Sebkha-Chott). One could also speak about math rock or experimental noise, but more than all, Sebkha-Chott Kourt's music owns its own proper thing, that new avantgarde thing, out of any rule, style or fashion, and that so specific sarcastic tone. A more detailed description about esthetical progression of Sebkha-Chott might be found on the band Wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sebkha-Chott Theater / Fables / Non-sense Keywords: pataphysique, Antonin Artaud, Frank Zappa, absurd Sebkha-Chott are set up in a half-theatrical shape from the beginning of the band. The stage becomes the world of Ohreland as the band comes, and the whole show then takes the shape of an absurd and interactive fable, using non-sense, clown things, and sarcastic tone. Technics / Digital Art Keywords: free softwares, jackd, GNU/Linux, digital art Sebkha-Chott's show's technics is a big part of the shows, even if everything is made so that the audience won't know: lights scenography and videoprojection synchronized to sound, multidirectionnal controls (lights to music, music to lights, and mostly, theater/improvisation to the whole things), highly enhanced interactivity with the audience, any piece of this setup increases the "diktat" feeling of the show, as if thousands of hands were working hard at backstage. This technics relies on Free Softwares only, some of them being developped by Sebkha-Chott's member in the AMMD. Discography / shows Sebkha-Chott's debut full-length-distributed cd Nagah Mahdi was released in 2006 on Muséa Records to wide critical acclaim. Nigla[h] came two years later alongside with De La Persistance, all being released on AMMD / Muséa Records. In the meantime Sebkha-Chott's name spread in the European places for experimental music as the band did several Europe tours, playing festivals including Freakshow Artrock (Germany), Brutal Assault (Czech Republic), Burg Herzberg (Germany), Zappanale (Germany) as well as famous venues like Scène Bastille (Paris), Razzmatazz II (Barcelona), Fri-Son (Switzerland), Usine (Geneva), P60 (Amsterdam), Nouveau Casino (Paris), Ritmo y Compas (Madrid)... and sharing bills with Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Unexpect, Magma, Indukti, Napalm Death, One Shot, Motorpsycho, Extra Life... The Ne[XXX]t Epilog was released on AMMD / Muséa Records in 2012, and received the very same enthousiastic reviews. In 2013, Sebkha-Chott worked in an extended version on Frank Zappa's Thing Fish, featuring Ike Willis (Frank Zappa's singer) and some more 8 musicians. The show was headlining at Zappanale 2013 and was a big success. - Chromatique.net (SW) "Le plus réussi des albums du groupe et le plus efficace ambassadeur de son AvantPorn Mekanik metal" - Longueurs d'Ondes (FR) "The third day I'd say there were two highlights of this day : Napalm Death and Sebkha-Chott." - Provokator (DE) "sicher ist, dass SEBKHA-CHOTT das Publikum damit fesseln wie nur wenige andere Bands" - metal1.info (DE) "mon meilleur souvenir du Brutal Assault..." - La Grosse Radio (FR) AMMD - Freak 'n' Free Arts Coo[r]p The AMMD is an free artists cooperative, producing Free Arts with Free Softwares and Hardwares. At the beginning thought as a musical production organization (albums, tours...), by opening its gate to several other disciplines (plastics, drawings...), it became kind of a lab in which everything is possible, with Free Softwares and Free World in mind, and a special attention payed to ecological facts. Today, the AMMD has organized several hundreds of dates in Europe, 13 editions of a festival called Le Chamelier GNU (up to 2012), numerous show/expositions, and the production of 15 physical albums, and many more digital. It is considered as one of the basics of Free Culture in France, especially considering music and live show.
