About Sound Horizon
Sound Horizon (サウンドホライズン), abbreviated by fans as Sanhora (サンホラ), is a Japanese art rock/symphonic metal band comprised of the composer Revo as its leader. It was conceived in 2001 when the band released their 1st Story CD, Chronicle, at Comiket 61. Revo had previously recorded and released several demo songs via the internet in the late 90's. He is also the longest running and currently the only official member of Sound Horizon. As of the band's 5th Story concert, he is often referred to as '陛下' ('Heika' which means 'His Majesty') by fans and other members to signify his leadership position. The collective fan base is thus known as the 'Sound Horizon Kingdom'. All other members are listed as 'support members' and may differ by the albums (although some have had longer tenures with the band than others). The band refers to itself as ''幻想楽団' (or the 'fantasy band'). Their music is generally in omnibus style; an album contains multiple parts with different themes that create one long, coherent story. Both male and female vocals are utilized, with soprano and mezzo-soprano vocals being the most common. Usage of narration is not restrained and can be heard in a variety of languages including French, Spanish, Arabic, Russian, German and English. This narration is often reminiscent of anime due to the frequent involvement of seiyū in narrating positions after the band's major record label debut. Various musical stylistic influences are also apparent in their music including progressive rock, jazz, pop, opera, classical, and heavy metal. Their lyrics are often mysterious and metaphorical and contain complex and fantastical themes varying from ancient curses, legends, mythology, dreams, war and paradise to lust, longing, obsession, crime, and death. Other than Revo, the current lineup consists of about a dozen vocalists along with 4 main narrators as well as numerous guest narrators. Leader: Revo: The leader and founding member of Sound Horizon.
