About The Ratells
'With a sound variously described as "sparklingly melodic" and ''epic'', The Ratells are now an established, must-see band in the vibrant South Yorkshire music scene. Exuberant, high energy sets infused with the band's infectious buzz have attracted a large and growing fan base to venues across the region, including sell-out shows at the O2 Academy Sheffield, The Plug, and The Boardwalk. The band have been nominated for countless awards in the past year including Exposed Magazine's Band of The Year, Toast Magazines 'Best Band' and 'Best Music Video' and picked up Hallam FM's 'Band of The Week' accolade after their performance at Tramlines Festival in 2010. The band, hotly tipped by BBC Introducing's Christian Carlisle and Iain Hodgson, are also well known for their close relationship with fans and relentless self-promotion including guerilla gigs on trams and in train stations as well as a growing number of music videos and free downloads, available through their Facebook and BandCamp pages. Recent EPs "Fearful Lullaby" and "The Steelworks Sessions" showcase a matured, nuanced sound influenced by bands such as the Editors and dancier rhythms likened to bands such as Foals and The Sunshine Underground. This perhaps explains why the band have shared bills with Kaiser Chiefs, Reverend and The Makers, The Courteeners and Frankie and The Heartstrings. Summer 2011 will see the band publicising their recent sessions back in the acclaimed Steelworks Studio with numerous festivals already confirmed such as Tramlines (Ash, Los Camepsinos!) and First Days of Freedom (Mystery Jets, The King Blues). New track 'Legacy' was released as a free download from the bands Facebook page in May 2011 and both 'Legacy' and 'The Ratells' were trending on Twitter within hours of the release. Double A Side 'Phobia/Take Aim' is planned for release in September 2011.
