Megadeth-Rust in Peace
I don't agree but you do make a lot of valid points and i know if we were in a room full of mayhem fans i would more then likely be the odd man out i like almost everything they do they say this is somewhat of a concept album ww2 meets Nietzsche i did feel however mayhem was a better band with Maniac and blasphemer hellhammer might well be the best guy to ever sit behind a drum set but i don't feel the musicians are that great in mayhem right now.
relistened to it the other day. my opinion hasn't changed at all. it's like they tried to get artistic with someone else's music. honestly, it sounds like them doing their best to sound like late '90s Arcturus or Emperor, when the emphasis had shifted from the Black Metal to the Avant-garde/Symphonic portion of that Black Metal. but not only that, it almost seems like they were doing an impression of Arcturus/Emperor trying to approximate what Fear Factory did on their Obsolete album, and failing at it..
and then there's the end of the album, which is a lot of fucking around and not much actual music going on. like they were deliberately extending the album's length to try and make it seem more 'majestic'.
bottom line is that it leaves A LOT to be desired, for me. it doesn't sound like Mayhem, but more like their impression of other music they heard that they liked. i'd rather listen to Chimera. at least that album is true to the sound of the band, at that point in time.
Fleetwood Mac "The Chain" / Album "Rumours" 1977
I was wondering how long it would take for someone to post this. There's a reason it's not "original" - one of the definitive "flawless" records for sure. Now how much longer until we see Aja?
