It won't do much, it's just a way for you to get a link to a certain post if you wanted to share it in email or on a social network or something. It might not be too necessary but it's a fairly common feature on typical forums so we decided to include them.

Hi Nick.
Welcome to Tastebuds! When you say "blog", I am assuming you mean posts on here? To be honest, I am not sure what "Permalink" does - I have never used it - but "Quote" allows you to quote all or part of another member's forum post when you reply to it, so that they know what you are referring to (as I have quoted yours on here!)
Just highlight the part of the post that you wish to quote and click on "Quote", then it will reproduce the post that you are quoting, at the beginning of your post.
However, it seems that if you only want to quote part of a post and therefore only highlight the bit that you wish to use, the whole post is reproduced regardless, so you have to "edit" it yourself! This works OK as long as you make sure that, whatever you delete, you leave the bits in square brackets at the beginning and end of the part of the post that you wish to quote. (Unless anyone knows a better way around this??)
