Very atmospheric and Carpenter-ish
Shaun of the Dead has an amazing soundtrack!
This opening number:
Still creeps me out

A close one! :-)Probably the below, although it could also have been Popol Vuh's 'Nosferatu The Vampire' or James Horner's 'The Name Of The Rose' (although that's not really a Horror, I suppose).Suspiria Opening Scene The Name of the Rose is a rare thing, it's sort of a gothic thriller. Agree on the Popol Vuh soundtrack, it's an amazing piece of work.
You may have heard this little piece of background trivia about 'Suspiria' already, but I love it... even if it may be exaggerated, perhaps: Basically, I've heard one of the people involved in the film - possibly a producer or even Argento himself - say that the storm in that opening sequence was totally real and totally unplanned, too. Apparently, they were all ready to film the airport arrival scene in the dry and that storm just appeared 'out of nowhere'. But they went ahead with the shooting and were so pleased with the results that they kept those takes. They said that everybody thinks they created the storm with special effects or waited for one to occur naturally, but that just wasn't the case. Like I say, this may just be bullshit, but I like to think it's true. :-)
