About The Atoms
1) The Atoms ARE a punk band in Derby, UK formed in 2000 and have a split ep with the Griswalds coming out verry soon and there second album "Surf Derby" coming out on Knowhere records by Christmas. 2) The Atoms were a British punk band formed in the late 70s. They released Swingalongamuck 7″ in 1979 on the label Rinka. 1) The Atoms were formed in Derby, UK in 2000 and the original line up was Joe Atom, Jimmy Atom and Jess Atom. Jimmy left the band and Joe stepped up to guitar and over the next two years they had a succession of bassists culminating in Tom Stretcher. This line up performed for a further 9-12 months until Jess decided to hang up skin slapping duties for The Atoms. Tim Jennings stepped up and this is still the current line-up They've toured extensively playing gigs all over Britain, Europe and across the pond in North America. The first album "Staying True with The Atoms" was released around 2004, and they have been featured on various compilation albums, including tribute discs to Groovie Ghoulies and samplers from various European labels. A new album "Surf Derby" has been recorded and should be released shortly (Summer 2009) The bands influences are mostly drawn from the American pop-punk scene. The Queers, The Ramones, The Lillingtons, Beach Boys, Screeching Weasel and The Descendents would all be cited as influences and inspirations. Bands they've either played with or in include The Hunchbacks, The Poundstretchers, Felusia's End, The Zatopeks, UK Subs, The Murderburgers, Lightyear, Babyshambles and The Vaccines 2) The Atoms were Keith Allen (vocals/piano), John Studholme (bass guitar/synth), Roy Dodds (drums), Photios Demetriou (rhythm guitar), and Keith James (lead guitar).
