Is Classic Rock Dying?

There are loads of modern bands who play very similar music to many classic rock era bands, they keep the style alive pretty well, maybe not on such a high commercial level as the bands of the 60s-80s though. Nothing will bring those days back though, there's just too much music available in different styles.

To some extent you're probably right, because it was so new, fresh and revolutionising; and to some extent you probably just remember it like that because you were young then. In 30 years the general public will most likely be grumpy assholes too; reminiscing about the "golden days" of indie/electro bullshit. It's already happening to some extent with some 90's bands (e.g. Oasis, or whatever) and will probably stretch far into the 2000's. It most likely won't be remembered quite as strongly, for it is more evolution than revolution of previous eras; but the point still stands. Nothing's changed on the creativity aspects of it. It just evolved with the times.

As long as the music is good and the message is relevant music will live on, no matter if it was the mainstream such as classic rock when it was current, or obscure underground extreme metal today.

And for your kind information KISS a-la Gene Simmons (who is probably less annoying and dumb compared to you) single-handedly paved the way for all the little gimmicks and marketing concepts you're talking about. Moreover, kiddie rock and mallcore stuff isn't my cup of tea. Maybe you're upset with your grandchildren playing Nickelcrap, Shitknot and Kornflakes all the time. There are thousands of talented and creative bands writing music within the underground and semi-obscurity. They will never be as popular as 60's-80's bands because today's majority just don't appreciate good music. They enjoy easy listening bullshit such as hip-hop and dubstep and crappy pop artists who don't even compose their own song.

They're trying to talk about bands that were world wide mega-stars, 20 years before they were born.
These bands were real, not some marketing concept like now, tattoo's, eye shadow, grumpy, growly, devil worshiping, tripe, for children
The late 60's early 70's were a golden age for rock creativity, it might be gone, but it'll be remembered long after these kiddie-rock bands have disappeared.

Classic rock isn't a distinctive genre. It was a radio format exclusively for late 60's-early 80's rock (ranging from pop rock a la The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Queen to prog rock a la Genesis, Yes, Kansas to hard rock a la Zeppelin, Aerosmith, AC/DC to heavy metal a la Black Sabbath, Scorpions, Judas Priest) bands.
