Growing out of music scenes
Have you grown out of a music scene, and if so, what made it get old?
I used to follow a forum called Absolutepunk, which put me on to a lot of "scene kid" bands. I use that as an umbrella to describe everything from pop-punk to post-hardcore to metal/metalcore, punk/hardcore, and every other fringe genre related to it. i had been following this scene since i was 15, and my first show was Circa Survive. yet after high school I fell in love with indie and i've largely left the ap.net style bands behind.
What got to me is the quality of music/live performances, compared to indie bands, was severely lacking. especially pop-punk and metal shows, i found that everything was way too loud and you could barely make out the vocalist the entire show. indie shows are a lot more pleasant to the ears.
I still find a band or two that draws me back to "the scene" (La Dispute is amazing) but for the most part, I dont bother to check for scene bands anymore.
I pose this topic because I know kids that have been listening to the same style of music for years and have not even tried to step out of their box.
