Total block??

If I block someone, although that means that they are unable to contact me or (I hope) see when I am online, it seems that they still appear on my homepage in the list of members who meet my "match criteria" who are online at the time that I log on. They also still show up in my list of profile viewers from before I blocked them. Is there a way to stop this? If I have had cause to block somebody, I don't particularly want to know if they are online at the same time as me, nor do I want to see their photo when I log on!

It seems that blocking someone stops them from showing up in your search results, but as far as I know, the search results page is the only place where it is possible to click "hide" next to a member's name so that they don't appear again. Or is it necessary to click "hide" on the search results page first, before you block them? (This of course would not be possible if you are trying to block someone who never showed up in your search results in the first place because they didn't fit your search criteria!)
