i had been wondering the same thing myself when i saw news of the impending shutdown of the site. i went to the meet me section (top left of the home page) and i looked through nearby profiles to check when one was last active. most seemed to be around 7 to 8 years ago, which coincides with the end of free messaging and the introduction of pay to message for new users. in order for the site/service to prosper, it should have a an outlined purpose. in it's current iteration, it's not a dating site or really even a meet me site for the vast majority of users. it's really like a message board to share a status and songs. with a reinvention and clearly defined objective, it could once again prosper. then there would need to be a way to draw revenue. i would turn off my adblockers and let ads run to help cover admin costs of running the site.

Would think that if there are enough regular (loyal?) users who would be willing to pay enough to cover the running costs of the site (and perhaps handle the moderation 'in-house'?) then there's no real reason the site couldn't continue. I've no idea how much it costs to run the site per week/month/year so my slight optimism may be misplaced. I hope not....
