I don't think 'display' is the right word to use. I don't take selfies. I think it is very vain and can't stand all those photos of women pouting, desperate for attention. It is a pressure on women to look good. I was bullied at school over my appearance and it still affects me to this day. Unfortunately I don't get inundated with messages on here, just because I'm a woman. Maybe it's because I'm not considered 'hot' enough. Online dating can be very difficult as you feel you have to sell yourself like a product and tbh it puts me off a bit when I see a man's profile with loads of photos of exotic foreign trips as it seems like boasting, although they're probably competing for attention too.
I couldnt have said it better. To support his statement someone here gave me her phone number. We talked a while. She kept suggesting Skype but to be honest I'm not comfortable seeing myself let alone others seeing me. So nothing happened. The male body like visage isn't exhalted like a female's. Of course we also don't have the burden of maintaining it and the pressure to keep it. I use to think women had it all. Only to discover the strain a woman's appearance can have in her working with other women, working with men, and dealing with improper flirtation. There's a second point I'll add. On the internet there's like a 3 to 1 if not more ratio in replies women get over men. I hardly ever send emails but the few I did don't reply because guys inundate them with email. @blessbabe or @bicourioushair My "point"... men have a disadvantage on the net plus the image society puts on them to be rugged, not vane, and being stoic/no smile. So we have it bad to. I mean... just ask @rredhed or most other guys. We' probably took 5 photos total in 2013 and three were forced on us. What guy not living in a gym enjoys posing for pics? Other hand, my nieces photograph every moment of their life.
I think that men have more difficulty displaying themselves in public. Not necessarily because they are self conscious but because thinking about your appearance is considered feminine or homosexual. I know we have moved away from that but I think we still have reservations when it comes to posing for a photo. Male models are mocked in most realms of the masculine ( High score for alliteration :P). I don't like my profile picture because it seems contrived but I was told it was the best picture of me. I got annoyed at seeing it a while back so I switched to a smiley face on a wall that always makes me smile. Maybe guys aren't as comfortable looking at themselves. We don't have the advantage of make-up either :)
...this is all incredibly subjective.
But to reply to the original post - I don't tend to view this as a dating site. And music knows no faces, really. It's a universal language.
