Seventh Seal (1957)
This scene gave me nightmares. What a brilliant film! Max von Sydow was perfect, in fact, all actors did a great job. Plot was well written, film is entertaining and impressive. One could pick so many shots, like that scene where a knight plays a chess game against Death, or those religious maniacs who were whipping themselves... But the final scene, where Death is taking its victims to... hell...? and forces them to dance is the one that's left a permanent impression on me. Great film, great everything, highly recommended!
Battleship Potemkin (1925)
Even though the contest is tough, Battleship Potemkin is probably my fav silent film so far. After bombarding the city of Odessa Potemkin gets surrounded by an entire fleet of battleships. Camera suddenly starts showing more entire ships and less crew members, which makes you think of ships as real living characters in the film. You know Potemkin can't escape and as soon as the fire begins it will be sunk. But Potemkin raises its cannons and faces the fleet fearlessly. What a great scene!
@skogen I really have to watch that film as soon as possible. So many people recommend it...
Kiss me deadly (1955)
Film noir is not my cup of tea and i was bored for the most part of "Kiss me deadly". Everything in it was just so stereotypical and unconvincing. I was watching it with a friend so i forced myself to see the entire film, otherwise i would've just shut it down and ignore it. And then comes the final scene, the lady opens the box and - boom. Femme fatal burns, whole house burns, main character runs out of the house not knowing what the fuck is going on. As if the characters themselves were expecting the stereotypical film noir ending and then everything goes to hell and they're shocked just as much as the viewer is. One of my favourite endings.
Woman in the Dunes (1964)
Yet another iconic scene from a great Japanese film. A bug trapped in a glass container, just like the main character is trapped in a desert.
